Kailua Beach Park
Kailua Beach Park is closed from midnight to 4 a.m.; its comfort station and parking lots close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Kalama Beach Park's lot closes from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. (Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Closure Hours, checked Oct 2026)
Kailua Beach has lifeguards every day from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (Hawaiʻi Ocean Safety (state), List of Lifeguarded Beaches, checked Oct 2026)
Lanikai
There is one public road into Lanikai and no outlet for drivers once inside, the city's transportation plan says. (City and County of Honolulu DTS, Lanikai Transportation Management Plan, checked Oct 2026)
On holiday weekends the city has banned parking from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on all of Mokulua and ʻAʻalapapa Drives, their shoulders and the cross-streets between them, marked with temporary sawhorse signs. (City and County of Honolulu DTS, Lanikai parking restrictions (New Year's 2026), checked Oct 2026)
The city plans "No Parking Any Time" signs along Mokulua Drive first, then ʻAʻalapapa Drive. It says no construction schedule has been set. (City and County of Honolulu DTS, Lanikai parking regulations update, checked Oct 2026)
The Visitor Guide is separate from the Ledger's news coverage. Every fact on these pages was checked against the official source named beside it in October 2026; the source's page governs if it has changed since. Anything we could not verify was left out. Found something wrong? Tell us; corrections go up the same day.
