The award and use of Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) financial assistance to the County of Maui, Department of Public Works to extend the Liloa Drive between Waipuʻilani Road and Kaʻonoʻulu Street in Kīhei. The proposed extension is approximately 4,900 linear feet in length and will consist of a two-lane roadway with curbs, gutters, sidewalks, a shared-use path, retaining walls, streetlights, and related utility system improvements. The project includes improvements to three drainageways: Waipuʻilani Gulch, Kūlanihākoʻi Gulch, and an unnamed drainageway downstream of the Piʻilani Village Subdivision. The project includes two bridges, one at each of the two gulches, and an extension of an existing box culvert at the unnamed drainageway. Phase I, which is planned to begin construction in 2027 and take approximately 18 to 24 months to complete, will consist of the segment between East Waipuʻilani Road and the vicinity of Kūlanihākoʻi Street. Phase II will commence after completion of Phase I and receipt of funding and will consist of the segment from the vicinity of Kūlanihākoʻi Street northward to Kaʻonoʻulu Street.
