The award and use of Federal Highways Administration (FHWA) funding by the County of Hawaiʻi Department of Public Works (DPW) to replace the existing Kaʻahakini Stream Bridge in Hakalau, Hawaiʻi. DPW proposes to remove the existing bridge and replace it with a similar structure supported by new abutments. The replacement bridge will consist of a single span of five reinforced concrete beams cast integrally with the deck. Most of the new bridge will remain in the existing right-of-way (ROW) and will maintain the same alignment and overall appearance as the existing bridge. The replacement bridge will measure 65 feet in length and will have a wider, tapered configuration at the northern end. The bridge, which is currently closed to traffic, will remain closed until the construction is completed.
