The award and use of U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) funding by Hale Makua Health Services (HMHS) to construct the rehabilitation and skilled nursing component of the new CarePlex healthcare center. HMHS is proposing to construct the CarePlex on an approximately 2.8-acre portion of TMK parcel (2) 3-8-007:097, adjacent to the existing Hale Makua Kahului facility. The CarePlex is being developed as a condominium project, and HMSA will purchase the ambulatory surgical center (ASC) and clinic unit upon completion. The EDA-funded component of the project will expand healthcare capacity on Maui by adding 56 dually licensed Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) beds that will be certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The remainder of the facility, which will be developed concurrently using non-EDA funding, will include an outpatient multi- specialty ambulatory surgical center, a dedicated medical clinic, and office space to support outpatient care and care coordination.
